18-50mm f2.8 EX DC Macro HSM user reviews

"Just a hobbyist. Use it on my D80. Have had the lens for just over a month at this point. Have used it during a small family party and a large party at a hall w/ ~100 guests. The images are crisp, clean and sharp. The focus is quick and there is a bit of noise and vibration as it adjusts. It's nice to have some tactile feedback to let you know it is still focusing.
Love the lens. No negatives at this point. For the price I don't think I'll find any."

"This Sigma lense will be used as a general macro lense with the D80 Nikon, a great camera. Buying the body only originally with a 18-200 3.5 VR lense. I was a little disappointed in the light gathering properites of the Nikon lense and too wide depth-of-field (some people seem to actually like). This Signma lense gives a sense of depth and proportion for landscapes and group settings. Very solid construction and tight fit to the camera. A little less 'hunting' in dark focus settings with the wider f-stop. The zoom lock is a nice feature that Nikon should have used on the other $700 lense when trekking around."

"This is a great over all lens... I use it predominately for everything... portrait, landscapes, macro (awesome at macro)... You have to give up some reach, but the quality of the images are amazing... This lens is able to stop motion and give you the best picture. I considered the 24-70mm 2.8 but it is much bulkier... but this lens is by far better then the kit lens you get with the Rebel XTi. Also, with this lens you will be able to get true whites, not too much yellow or green effect"

"I love this lens it is a very sharp and the colors are great. It works great in low light, the macro is awesome and it is a fraction of the cost and size of the nikon. The only complaint I have is if your finger is on the focus ring when you autofocus it will make a grinding or screeching sound that just sounds like it will cause damage in the long run. After using it for a few days I got used to it and havn't had the problem as long as I dont put my finger on it. I feel that was poor design. It was not bad enough to make me want to send it back."

"I bought this lens because I needed a faster lens than my 18-200mm 3.5/5.6f Nikon but I did not have a lot of money and this lens fit the bill perfectly. It does not feel like a compromise, like I had to give up quality for price, this is a well made lens and it helps me make beautiful images."
